I have been speaking out against excessive spending since we lost the surplus given to us under the Clinton administration. As I stated in the article, he didn't speak out against it. However, the underlying point of the article was the we need to start making account for the monies that we spend moving forward.

Oh, I was as vocal as I could be in expressing my disagreement with the war and the costs affiliated with it.

Republicans colluded to conceal this mess from the American people by directing the majority of trillion-dollar deficit directly into the National Debt and skirting the budget process. WE didn't say anything as the debt ballooned from $6.2 trillion beginning federal fiscal year 2003 to $10 trillion beginning federal fiscal year 2009 because WE didn't SEE anything - and it was designed to stay that way! The total debt and deficit reached approx. $1.178 trillion in federal fiscal year 2007-2008 but the Bush Administration only showed us a deficit of $160.7 billion - shoving $1 trillion (plus interest) directly into the national debt and directly onto the backs of our children.
We can talk about fiscal responsibility all day long, we can talk about priorities all day long.
When Treasury Secretary John W. Snow made the wrong comments about the dollar on May 13, 2003 during a TV interview...
http://www.america.gov/st/washfile-english/2003/May/20030514134947ikceinawza0.7209436.html
I knew we were in DEEP trouble.

Did you? Did Sen. Bunning speak on that then?
Did Sen. Bunning speak on fiscal restraint prior to this stunt he pulled?

We're not out of the woods, the wealthy individuals are still hiding our money (taxes) in overseas accounts for their personal benefit while stating that they've received no benefit from us as a collective society.
Multi-national corporations have no patriotic responsibility to the USA, and have no national loyalty to the USA (see Halliburton's move of a division HQ to Dubai to do business in Iran).
Revenue is being lost to cover the costs of the war waged in order to gain economic access into Iraq, but the corporations fail to repay the cost for access.... kind of like how the culture of the (USA federally-funded/educated/supported/subsidized) wealthy has told themselves that they "did it all on their own" and seem to think that they owe no one for their success.
It's not a class issue.
It's a national loyalty issue.

I just had this conversation with my brother. Seems we are demonizing this guy (for a lot of good reasons that you mentioned) when he is spot on in this situation. It is crazy that politics will continue to get in the way of what are otherwise good ideas.

The senate truly is a broken institution. I know your expertise is in finance, but what are your suggestions on how we can begin to effect change for the better?

"After my departure there will arise the ignorant and the crafty, and many things will they ascribe unto Me that I never spake, and many things which I did speak will they withhold, but the day will come when the clouds shall be rolled away, and the Sun of Righteousness shall shine forth with healing in his wings." ~Jesus, The Essene Gospel of Peace

Oh Pat Robertson you are a thron in the side of the christian existance. While once upon a time he was considered the "mouth piece" of the christian movement he is now being told to "shut up and sit down" as a whole new generation of christians are saying enough with the fear mongering and hatred. The general public can question Jesus divinity all you want but the gen x'ers and generation now movement know that all of that aside at the heart of the message is one of peace, love and helping out mankind. You will find that even within the christian movement itself there is a strong divide between what was and what is. This generation (my generation) of Obama supporting, right to choose liberal republicians as they call us are crying out for the old school ways of thinking to die with the saints. The new generation is saying no matter what you believe, no matter who you want to marry, or what you have done in your past we accept you. There is a reason that Christ himself did not sit with the christian leaders of his day, he was a radical who challanged the very esssence of their so called "laws' and "doctrines" which did nothing more than enslave the mentalities of the masses. There are a lot of voices of christianity that are out there and they are well balanced, educated and compassionate. You want to know hell Pat Robertson, look into the mirror at the reflection of your own eyes and see the bitter empty tomb that your soul has become.

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do." — Jack Kerouac

what is that saying..caveat emptor?(I'm too lazy to google) Let the buyer beware.

You have to look at these debit cards closely to see if they are a good fit. for you personally. Each has its advantage/disadvantage including the Rushcard, though I must say it is one of the best available.
It all depends on your spending habits . Example: you make an average of two online purchases in a month. The typical debit card only charges its monthly maintenance fee(as low as $4 for quite a few) whereas you'll pay $1 for each transaction w/ the rushcard. Advantage rushcard. However you go pass 4 transactions and the rushcard will be on the losing end. On the other hand, If you use the rushard 10 times for the year, you'd only spend $10, meanwhile for the other cards you'd have to pay upwards of $50 in monthly fees for the year even if you only used the card ten times. There are several such variables everyone should assess. This makes it difficult to compare two cards much less all the cards out there.

The folks in the plastic game are all profiteers including Simmons. Not a little work goes into creating these things. But expect that when a card seems better in one aspect it always falters in another.

for me the western union card is better than the rushcard, since it only charges for inactivity after 380 days versus 60 days., and I use debit cards quite infrequently enough for this to be the matter of most importance in my case
