12 Week Financial Literacy Program for Youth
All About Business is a youth financial literacy group which teaches financial literacy to inner-city teens. This group meets weekly discussing financial market events, learning the Optimum Capital Management “Seven Steps to Financial Freedom”, and planning community outreach activities.
Each week there are events that transpire in the market that impact the lives of American citizens. The first part of each session will be devoted to discussing the importance of following current events and giving various selected students the opportunity to articulate how these events impact their lives.
The “Seven Steps to Financial Freedom” covers a variety of areas including but not limited to the following:
• Budgeting
• Credit Repair
• Insurance
• Estate Planning
• Credit Cards
• Investments (Stocks, Bonds, Real Estate, Business)
For the second part of each weekly discussion the students will focus on a topic within the Seven Steps to Freedom as well as make brief presentations about the importance and proper use of the particular step. A test will covering the “Seven Steps to Financial Freedom” will be given to the students at the beginning and conclusion of the program to gauge performance. Brief quizzes will also be provided at the beginning of this segment within each session to help facilitate discussion. All materials have been created by Optimum Capital Management.
The third part of the meeting will be dedicated to developing, planning, and administering a community service event in the community. Community services events will be thought of by the students based upon problems and perceived need of the surrounding community.
The goal of the program will be for each participating student to plan and administer a financial literacy workshop for the community based upon the “Seven Steps to Financial Freedom”. Students will also be required to be active participants in the community service projects. Finally, for each student to receive a certificate of completion each will be required to pass the final exam with a score of 80% or higher.
